What do you think the next Sonic game should be about?
Please... PLEASE let it be a full game based on some kind of megacity or something, especially if it's a new metropolis built by Eggman.
I've gone about this a ton of times in the past, but now that Frontiers is out and proved the open zone is actually a good idea, I'd love to see them try a denser environment, one that better blends old 3D level design conventions with the open zone freedom.
Eggman has built or taken over a massive metropolis with several districts you have to explore and liberate, just like the islands in Frontiers. Each district is part of the same city but at the same time they're different enough from each other in aesthetics and mechanics. You may have your regular futuristic looking district, followed by some sort of "Egg Gardens" area, a casino/carnival district, maybe even some sort of underground/ancient ruins district buried under the city. Everywhere you look you see Eggman's face, colors and logos, and it's your job to do enough damage to tear it all down and face down each big boss controlling the districts. Now that I think about it, sounds kinda like what we expected out of Sonic Forces.
I think the open zone worked well in Frontiers, but the natural environments and sometimes their sheer size fought a bit against the floating rails and platforms. A more contained and condensed environment could probably make those bits of level design flow better and extract a lot more out of Sonic's movement options.
Imagine the final district is Eggmanland but open zone. I'd pay big bucks for that.
#ask latin dr robotnik#sonic the hedgehog#also apparently kishimoto wasn't the original director for sonic rangers?#he entered the project as it was in the middle of development#and i wonder if sega switched directors after the first wave of feedback#y'know the ones that said rangers was a bad breath of the wild rip-off with ubisoft towers and mashy combat?#so not only kishimoto directed a struggling sonic rangers#but had to make it into what we now know as frontiers#and you can tell the final product was rushed in key places#so i wonder if the next game will be able to realize kishimoto's full vision#maybe we could be in for a treat
